Hello! My name is Ivana, and I am a final-year medical student with a BSc (Hons) in Applied Medical Sciences from Swansea University. I also hold an Access to Medicine qualification from The Manchester College, which I completed with Distinction. My passion for teaching developed during my university studies, where I regularly presented and explained complex topics to my peers. The positive feedback I received inspired me to pursue tutoring and develop my ability to make challenging subjects simple, engaging and enjoyable. I strongly believe that every student has the potential to succeed with the right guidance and support. My teaching approach focuses on breaking down difficult concepts into manageable steps, building confidence and adapting lessons to each student's individual learning needs. I offer personalised, one-to-one online tutoring in Maths, English and Science for KS3 and GCSE students. My lessons are interactive, supportive and structured to strengthen understanding, improve problem-solving skills and prepare students for academic success. My goal is not just to help students achieve better grades, but to inspire confidence, independence and a genuine enjoyment of learning.
My Teaching Experience and Expertise I have experience tutoring students at GCSE and A-level, particularly in Biology, and I understand the importance of making complex topics clear, engaging and accessible. My teaching approach goes beyond simply explaining information. I incorporate visual learning, interactive activities, practical examples and active recall techniques to help students understand concepts, retain knowledge and apply what they have learned with confidence. My passion for science, combined with my academic background in medical sciences and my experience as a final-year medical student, allows me to explain challenging scientific concepts in a clear and structured way. In addition to GCSE and A-level tutoring, I can provide academic support in university-level subjects, including Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacology and human body systems, such as the cardiovascular, respiratory and digestive systems. University Applications and Personal Statements I also have experience supporting students with university applications. I have guided two students through the process of writing their personal statements, helping them identify their strengths, structure their ideas and communicate their motivation effectively. Both students successfully secured university places and are currently studying Nursing. Language Tutoring Alongside my academic experience, I have previously worked as a professional interpreter in various settings, including the NHS. This experience strengthened my communication skills and my ability to explain information clearly to people from different backgrounds. My Teaching Philosophy I believe that effective tutoring is not simply about delivering information; it is about ensuring that students genuinely understand, remember and feel confident applying what they learn. Every student has different strengths and learning needs. My goal is to create a supportive, interactive and encouraging learning environment where students can ask questions freely, overcome challenges and reach their academic potential.

My Approach to Tutoring I believe that every student is unique, and effective tutoring should reflect their individual needs, strengths and learning abilities. Before beginning our lessons, I take the time to get to know each student, understand their academic goals and identify areas where they feel confident, as well as those where they may need additional support. My approach focuses not only on addressing weaknesses but also on recognising and developing existing strengths. I believe that building on what students already do well is just as important as helping them overcome challenges. As everyone learns differently, I adapt my teaching methods and lesson structure to suit each student's needs. I incorporate clear explanations, visual resources, interactive activities and practical examples to make learning more engaging, accessible and effective. My ultimate goal is to help students develop a deeper understanding of their subjects, build lasting confidence and become more independent learners.
Experience with Examination Boards I am familiar with both AQA and Edexcel examination boards, having personally sat examinations administered by them. This firsthand experience has given me an understanding of their examination formats, question styles and assessment expectations. I use this knowledge to support students with exam preparation, helping them develop effective revision strategies, improve their examination techniques and approach questions with greater confidence.
One of My Most Rewarding Tutoring Experiences One of my most memorable tutoring experiences involved a GCSE student who had a strong interest in Chemistry and Physics but struggled with Biology. Unlike the other two sciences, she found Biology challenging and lacked the motivation and confidence to engage with the subject. I recognised that improving her understanding was only part of the challenge; I also needed to help her develop an interest in the subject. By adapting my teaching approach, breaking down complex concepts and making lessons more engaging and relatable, I gradually helped her discover the fascinating aspects of Biology. Over time, her attitude towards the subject became more positive, and she developed greater confidence in her abilities. The most rewarding outcome was seeing her achieve a Grade B in her GCSE Biology examination. For me, this experience reinforced an important belief: successful tutoring is not just about improving grades, but also about inspiring students to believe in their abilities and discover an interest in subjects they once found difficult.
“Ivana is a brilliant tutor before the lesson she tests you understanding by asking you what you learnt that lesson. and when the next lesson begins she asks you about what you learnt last lesson. We watched videos and use resources and she helped be understand them to the fullest.”
“Miss Ivana has been tutoring me for the past year, and she has always been very committed and met my student needs. She has a very kind approach and I feel she cares very much about my studies. She is always open to questions and I feel very comfortable in her lessons. ”
